MSc Health Informatics
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

John is an experienced and motivated process improvement specialist with a wide range of skills applied in a variety of healthcare settings and value streams.  He has over 15 years of leadership experience in various operational service departments including performance effectiveness and information technology.
John became familiar with many of six sigma statistical approaches during his Masters preparation in Health Informatics at the University of Minnesota.  He put those skills to use as in business intelligence and systems analysis roles, applying them to projects such as Emergency Department floor plan changes and lost revenue due to disconnects between clinical and financial practices in clinics.  Subsequently, he received LSSBB training at the Schulich Executive Education Centre while applying the principles to a set of value streams from Emergency Department through General Internal Medicine, particularly as applied to MOHLTC metrics outlined in pay-for-performance agreements.

More recently, John helped with core curriculum for the Health Informatics Certificate Program at Ryerson’s Chang School of Continuing Education – developing and delivering, both in person and online, their required course in Healthcare Interoperability standards.  He also lead development and implementation of an Organization Development course on Process Improvement for a leading Toronto hospital.

John has experience using Six Sigma approaches with Lean value identification methods, and is informed by a depth of experience using operational data to inform health services administration.  He supports metric development and embedding them in everyday business routines.  He also supports front-end understanding and ownership for knowledge transfer and sustainability.
